January is Board of Education Recognition Month! Board Member Spotlight: Michelle McQuillan
January is School Board Appreciation Month! Please join us as we show appreciation to our school board members for volunteering their time and advocating on behalf of every child in our community. We will be featuring each school board member on the website throughout the month.
Today's spotlight will be on board member Michelle McQuillan.
Mrs. McQuillan has been on the Lansing School Board for almost six years and previously served as Vice-President. She moved to Lansing School District with her family from the Leavenworth Schools in 1978 and graduated from Lansing High School in 1986. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Business from Saint Mary's College, along with her Teaching Certificate in 1994 and Master's in Education in 2008. She retired from the US Army Reserve in 2011 as a Master Sergeant E8 with 24 years and worked as a contractor for various companies as a Military Instructor at CGSC from 2004-2017. Currently, she works with her husband at their company, which they have owned since 2011. Her husband, Mark McQuillan, graduated from Lansing High School in 1985. They have five sons who all graduated or will graduate from Lansing and are proud grandparents of three grandsons with one more on the way (due in late February).
Mrs. McQuillan has helped the Lansing community in numerous ways over the years through her volunteer work. She was a member of the Alumni Board, a member of LionBackers from 2014 - 2018, served on OpGrad all four years her children were graduating.
"I chose to run and am serving on the board because I believe I bring a lot of different perspectives to the table. I have an education background. I have a military background. I am from this community, 3rd generation. I graduated from Lansing, and I have/had children in the district, and I have a child with special needs. I have a lot of different perspectives that help me make informed decisions or insights that others may not have. I enjoy serving on the USD 469 School Board and continue to do the best job that I can for the children and teachers of the district."
