January is Board of Education Recognition Month! Board Member Spotlight: Mary Wood
January is School Board Appreciation Month! Please join us as we show appreciation to our school board members for volunteering their time and advocating on behalf of every child in our community. We will be featuring each school board member on the website throughout the month.
Today's spotlight will be on our Lansing USD469 Board Member Mary Wood.
Mary Wood is in her second year serving on the Lansing USD469 Board of Education. She is a lifelong Lansing, Kansas resident. She attended first grade at Nine Mile School in rural Lansing (Leavenworth County) and second through 12th grades in Lansing USD 469. She worked for The Sisters of Charity from the time she was in the 8th grade until she graduated from Lansing High School in 1976. Mrs. Wood attended Kansas City Community College and then started her career in the orthodontic field, working for the orthodontic group of Drs. Radke, Hoffman, and Fry. She continued to work there for the next 42 years and is now retired. She enjoys spending my time traveling, gardening, spending time with family and friends.
Mrs. Wood was married to Greg Wood for 19 years, who is now deceased. She has one daughter, Natalie Wood, who also attended the Lansing school district from kindergarten through 12th grade. Natalie graduated from Lansing High School in 2018.
"I was very involved in community services and fundraising for K-12 in Lansing since 2005. I wanted to continue serving our community and felt the Lansing School Board was a great opportunity to do so. I am excited and looking forward to serving my community as a board member!"
