Campaign Activity at Lansing USD 469 Events
As we come closer to election day for the school board positions, we ask all candidates and their supporters to follow Kansas State Statute, 25-4169a. Specifically, this provision:
“Except as otherwise provided in this section, no municipality shall permit or allow any person to distribute, or cause to be distributed, within any building or other structure owned, leased or rented by such municipality any brochure, flier, political fact sheet or other document which expressly advocates the nomination, election or defeat of a clearly identified candidate for state or local office unless each candidate for such state or local office is permitted or allowed to do so in the same manner.”
Our school district continues to follow the mission to provide all students with the scholastic, technical, social, and life-long learning skills essential for academic, occupational, and personal success as productive citizens. We feel that Statute 25-4169a should guide our interactions and keep political activities away from our school district. If campaign items have been distributed on school property, this action should cease immediately.
As we stated in our article on the district website, we appreciate members of the community volunteering for civic duty and wish all those who are running the best of luck. USD 469 does not endorse, nor are we affiliated with, any individual political candidate.
