A Message from Dr. Stufflebeam
Parents, Guardians, and Colleagues:
Temperatures cooperated this morning but the forecast for most of this week includes chances of wintry precipitation in the morning. I usually Tweet about road conditions @dstufflebeam if there are potential issues. Please keep in mind that we need to cancel school by 6:00 a.m. due to buses being on their routes. After that time, please pay attention to your local road conditions and keep in mind that you can excuse an absence for weather-related reasons at any time.
After discussing Parent-Teacher Conference options with principals, Wednesday night (4:00-8:00) will be the only scheduled conferences but parents can continue to schedule conferences with teachers as they like.
In regard to remaining "Snow Days", state law requires 1116 hours of school time each year. We started the school year with the equivalent of five Snow Days and have used four so we have one remaining. Any winter weather days used beyond that will need to be made up and we will be discussing contingency plans for that just in case.
Since the safety of students and employees is our top priority, the need to make up school days will not be a factor in the school cancellation decision-making process. This has been an unusually harsh winter but, as members of the Lansing Lion Pride, we will stick together, continue to look out for each other, and overcome any challenges we encounter. I am extremely proud of our teamwork during this difficult time. Thank you and Go Lions!
Darrel Stufflebeam, Superintendent of Schools
