From kasb.org:
"The Kansas Constitution guarantees every student in the state access to free and equitable public education. Local school boards are a shining example of representative government, putting this Constitutional responsibility into motion in communities across Kansas. Nearly 2,000 men and women serve as school board members across the public school systems that serve nearly 500,000 children and employ some 70,000 Kansans.
Public schools exist to help every student reach their fullest potential. Board members receive no pay for their service — except for the satisfaction that comes from strengthening opportunities for young Kansans, creating an ever brighter future for our state."
"KASB encourages any eligible Kansan who cares about their schools and community to run for school board. Incumbent or new candidate, your experience, perspective and commitment to students makes you an invaluable asset to your community."
