Lansing High School Freshman, Ryan Schmitz, Renovates Lansing Intermediate School Front Office for Eagle Scout Project
Visitors of Lansing Intermediate School (LIS) will notice a new look in the front office area, thanks to Lansing High School freshman Ryan Schmitz. Ryan recently renovated the student workstations in the front office of LIS for his Eagle Scout Project. Ryan said chose the renovation project at the school because he wanted to help a local organization by doing something impactful that would last a long time.
Ryan contacted Lansing Intermediate School earlier this school year to see if there was a need, and they gave him three areas that needed work in the building. He chose a location in the front office where students come to work. To complete the project, he had to plan, get it approved, acquire all the necessary materials, and recruit other volunteers to help make it happen. Ryan led the group while first building a frame and painting brackets. They then removed the old desks, installed the new frames, and mounted the new countertops.
"After we mounted the countertops on the frames, we installed the shelves above the countertops," said Ryan. "We then drilled holes in the desks for the power outlets."
It took him eleven hours to do all the physical work and a couple of days to do the research and paperwork.
"I would like to thank Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Settles for allowing me to do this project. Also, thank you to Mrs. Bresser for showing me around and letting us in the building when school was closed. Thank you to all the family and friends who helped with my project and donations, especially my dad and mom."
Lansing USD469 would like to send a tremendous THANK YOU to Ryan for his incredible work and dedication to our district. The students and staff of Lansing Intermediate School will appreciate your work for years to come!
