Lansing High School 2020 Graduation Ceremony Information
Over the past several weeks, I have met with students and parents from our Lansing High School site council and Operation Graduation to get their input to help us make the best decisions while planning an alternative graduation ceremony. Based on those conversations, we identified two critical factors for making decisions about the ceremony date and location. They are listed below in order of importance.
- Students could be physically together for the graduation ceremony.
- Two parents / guardians could attend and watch the ceremony live.
Based on this input and guidance from Governor Kelly and Leavenworth County Health Department, we compiled graduation options based on minimum gathering sizes allowed:
- If state and local guidance allow us to meet in groups of 650 on June 15th, we will hold our graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 27th at 10:00 am. The ceremony will take place outdoors at the Lansing High School Stadium and each student will be given two tickets.
- If large group restrictions for Kansas and Leavenworth County have not been lifted for groups of 650 by June 15th, we will move the graduation date to Saturday, July 25th at 10:00 am at Lansing High School Stadium. It is our hope that each senior will be able to have two people attend the graduation ceremony on July 25th.
- If the restriction for groups of 650 remains in place and up to 250 are allowed by July 25th, we will hold the ceremony for students only on July 25th.
- If state and local guidelines do not meet the 250 person minimum by July 25th, we will hold individual graduations for each high school senior. I will send more information about this if it is necessary.
We will be live streaming the ceremony regardless of the number of people attending, so that family and friends can watch.
We understand some seniors will begin the next phase of their life prior to the June 27th or July 25th date. I have sent a survey for each senior to complete indicating when and if they will be unavailable due to a move this summer. If a senior is unable to attend because they are leaving Lansing, we will schedule an individual graduation ceremony before their departure.
In all of the above scenarios, social distancing guidelines will be followed. Thank you for your understanding and support. Please know we are and will continue to follow the safety guidelines outlined by state and local health officials while trying to put together a graduation ceremony that allows our students to celebrate together before embarking on their next adventure. I will send more information as needed if minimum gathering requirements are not met by the dates mentioned above.
Congratulations to all of our graduates and their families. We hope you all stay safe and look forward to being able to celebrate with you soon!
