LHS Choirs Earn Top Honors at State Large Group Festival Contest
On April 17th, our choirs competed at the KSHSAA State Large Group contest at Baker University in Baldwin City, KS. I view this as our classroom's "state assessment" and the "state championship game." Our classroom ensembles prepare literature for three judges and are adjudicated on an 80-point scale, with a 69 and above earning a "I" rating. I am proud to say that we were one of only three schools at our site of 19, where all three choirs earned a "I - Outstanding/Exemplary" rating. In fact, our ensembles received "I" on all nine of the judge rubrics! Furthermore, most "I"s earned in music contests are a 69 or 70. The average score of our nine rubrics was 76.5/80. Our Women's Ensemble had a banner day with scores of 80, 80, & 79! The Legacy Singers earned an 80 as well!
"It was great opportunity to display the excellence that occurs daily within our classroom," said senior Kaitlyn Cook, a member of each of the choirs. "It was fantastic to see the hard work of our choirs pay off in such a great way! Our classroom has fostered an absolutely incredible collective bond and work ethic which I was proud and honored to display. It was a day that reminded me of how glad I am to be a part of the Lansing choirs!"
We are encouraging our Lansing community to come to their final concert of the year on May 8th at 7:00 pm to hear them perform.
