Ms. Jackie Euler takes Continuous Learning to a new level with her fifth grade class! (VIDEO)
Fifth graders in Ms. Jackie Euler's class have continued to connect and learn while having fun the past few months. Please read Ms. Jackie Euler's message about all of the activities that have been happening in fifth grade since the continuous learning plan was put into place:
"Student engagement can be hard on a daily basis in a regular classroom setting, but think of how hard it is to be teaching students virtually and keeping our students engaged. Teachers are going above and beyond to engage their students every single day during this pandemic. As a teacher in fifth grade, I still wanted to focus on making connections with my students so I wanted to plan fun learning activities for my students during continuous learning. Each week, I created virtual spirit activities for my students to participate in. My students showed up to our daily Zoom meetings dressed up as their favorite Walt Disney Character, they learned how to make ninja masks, met for our meeting from their elaborate fort they built, and showed off their special skills in a talent show. Mr. Riggs, Mrs. Holyfield, and I sent out “Flat Teachers” to all of their students. Students were challenged to take pictures of themselves with their “Flat Teacher” doing something fun. “Flat Ms. Euler” mowed grass, watched movies, helped in the garden, and took some long naps. I also challenged my students to a competition for turning in all their assignments for the week. The students who turned in everything on time were invited to a special Zoom meeting with me on Tuesday. At the meeting, the kids were given the choice to watch my son throw a pie in my face or to have myself stuff as many large marshmallows into my mouth as I could and sing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.” Of course, my students chose a pie in the face. The kids had so much fun and enjoyed every single minute of it. I feel it is so important to make each minute engaging and fun during each class time because for some, class time may be an escape from the negative news cycle. So, let’s use this silly, but helpful moment in keeping the kids on task as we learn—and have some fun along the way."
