Lansing High School Voltron Robotics Team Competing in FIRST Greater Kansas City Regional Event March 21-23, 2019
The Lansing High School Voltron Robotics Team has come a long way in two short years under the direction of science teacher Anne Krebs. They will be competing this week (March 21 - 23) in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Greater Kansas City Regional Robotics Event at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City. Lansing High School senior, Matthew Lee, is excited to be a part of the robotics team and event, "It's an important experience to have, especially today. Technology is a big thing. If you can get your hands on stuff like this, you already have one foot in the door."
According to the FIRST Robotics Viewing Guide, "The FIRST Robotics Competition challenges high school students to construct a robot of their own in an annual themed challenge. Under strict rules, limited resources and the guidance of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, teams of 25+ students have just six weeks to build and program robots to perform challenging tasks against a field of competitors. They must also raise funds, design a team brand, hone teamwork skills and perform community outreach. In addition to learning valuable Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) and life skills, participants are eligible to apply for $50+ million in college scholarships."
Liam Neidig, Lansing High School junior, appreciates how being on the team has added to his high school experience, "Robotics is amazing because it's the nexus of so many amazing people and things. I have learned so many skills and pieces of knowledge from robotics and not all of them even have to do the robots. We are learning real life skills and I know that my experiences in FIRST will continue to benefit me for the rest of my life."
Matches at the event will be broadcast Friday March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd at:
