Kansas Day Celebration: Second Graders Explore Wheat and Bread Making
Second-grade students at Lansing Elementary School celebrated Kansas Day through a fun educational activity that allowed them to experience the rich agricultural heritage of our state through a hands-on bread-making experience.
Sonya Murphy, a K State Extension Office representative, joined our second-grade classrooms to guide our students and share insights about Kansas's role as a leading producer of wheat and the various uses of this vital crop. Throughout the week, students explored the process of bread making from start to finish. Students not only made their bread from scratch, but they were able to bake it in the school cafeteria and take it home to share with their families.
We are incredibly grateful to Sonya Murphy and the K State Extension Office for her support in making this learning experience possible. Through activities like these, our students learn a sense of pride in their community and an understanding of agriculture's vital role in shaping our lives.
