The Lansing High School Baseball program continues its 1st Pitch Club tradition this season, recognizing individuals who have made a meaningful difference in the Lansing community. The 1st Pitch Club was created to honor those who help make Lansing a place people are proud to call home. Throughout the season, the high school baseball staff invites military veterans, first responders, USD 469 staff members, and community members with a lasting legacy to throw out a ceremonial first pitch before games. At a recent game, the program proudly recognized Mona Hauver as the evening’s honoree. Mona has been a dedicated member of USD 469 for 18 years, serving in a variety of roles that have made a lasting impact on students and staff. Over the years, she has coached both swimming and diving, sponsored the Lionettes, and served as the Lansing Educational Foundation (LEF) representative at the high school. Currently, Mona leads the district’s business office and accounting operations. In addition, she continues to stay actively involved at Lansing High School as a Student Council sponsor alongside Stephanie Hawks, helps organize the High School Social Club, and assists with major community events such as the 5K and LEF Rugged 5K. Her commitment to Lansing extends beyond her professional roles. Mona and her husband, Rich, have deep roots in the community, having called Lansing home for 29 years. Together, they have raised five children—Megan Seebeck, Jessica McIntyre, Abby Hauver, Bobby Hauver, and Elle Linafelter—each of whom graduated from Lansing schools. The Hauver family legacy continues to grow, with 15 grandchildren and counting—five of whom have already attended Lansing schools. The Lansing High School Baseball program is proud to recognize Mona Hauver for her years of service, leadership, and dedication to the students, staff, and families of USD 469. Her impact continues to shape the Lansing community in meaningful ways.

Lansing USD 469 is excited to invite students, families, and community members to celebrate the creativity of our talented students at the District Art Showcase on Saturday, April 18, 2026. The showcase will take place from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Lansing High School (1412 147th Street), with entry available through doors 7 or 8. Admission is free. Artwork from students representing Lansing’s elementary, intermediate, middle, and high schools will be on display. Guests can enjoy a vibrant collection of student creations and participate in hands-on activities for kids, making this a fun and engaging event for all ages. In addition to the art showcase, attendees can enjoy a Chris Cakes Pancake Breakfast, presented by the Lansing Kiwanis. The all-you-can-eat breakfast is $10 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. The event will also feature the Spring into Wellness Fair, hosted by the USD 469 Health and Wellness Committee in partnership with local health professionals, offering additional resources and activities for families. Donations are welcome, with all proceeds directly supporting the Lansing art program.

The Lansing Intermediate Junior Guard team delivered an impressive performance this past weekend, earning 2nd place in the Knowledge category at the Junior Guard competition held at Leavenworth High School. With just five members competing, Lansing fielded the smallest team at the event—but their size didn’t hold them back. The team demonstrated strong preparation, teamwork, and determination throughout the competition. Despite facing larger teams, the Lansing students represented their school and community with pride, showcasing both their knowledge and commitment to excellence. Congratulations to these outstanding students for their hard work and for bringing home a well-earned award!

Lansing High School seniors have an opportunity to earn scholarship funds while promoting an important message: safe driving. The Lansing High School National Honor Society (NHS) is sponsoring a Safe Driving Scholarship, with applications due by April 18. Who Can Apply? To be eligible, applicants must: Be a current LHS senior Complete an essay (minimum 300 words) based on the prompt provided in the application form Students can access the application and essay prompt by scanning the QR code available on the promotional materials shared throughout the school. Scholarship Details Award Amount: Minimum of $200 Recipients: Two students Selection Criteria: Essays will be evaluated, and recipients will be chosen based on the quality of their responses Encouraging Safe Choices This scholarship not only provides financial support for graduating seniors but also highlights the importance of making responsible decisions behind the wheel—an especially meaningful topic for students preparing for the next chapter of their lives. Lansing High School is proud to recognize its March Coaches Club Athletes of the Month, honoring student-athletes who have demonstrated exceptional performance, dedication, and competitive success. Each month, in-season head coaches nominate athletes who have had standout performances. The nominations are then reviewed and voted on by the high school coaching staff to determine the monthly honorees. For March, Lansing High School proudly recognizes Aden Leftwich, Madison Newman, and Makalia Hayes for their outstanding accomplishments. Boys Athlete of the Month Aden Leftwich – Powerlifting Aden Leftwich delivered a dominant performance this season, successfully defending his title as the 4A Men’s 220 lb State Champion, becoming a back-to-back state champion. He also made program history as the first boys back-to-back state champion at Lansing High School. Aden won every lift at the state meet and claimed his weight class by an impressive 210-pound margin, showcasing his strength and consistency at the highest level of competition. Female Athletes of the Month Madison Newman – Powerlifting Madison Newman earned top honors as the 4A Women’s 180 lb State Champion, capping off an incredible season. She was also named Lifter of the Meet, recognizing her as the strongest female lifter in 4A this year. Madison won every lift in competition and secured her title with a commanding 225-pound margin, highlighting her dominance in the sport. Makalia Hayes – Track & Field Makalia Hayes had an outstanding month on the track, contributing to multiple team victories. She won two individual events and helped lead two relay teams to wins at the Topeka West Invitational. At the Lansing Relays, Makalia led four relay teams to first-place finishes, helping the Lions secure the overall team victory. She continued her success at the Lawrence Invitational, where she won two individual events and two relay events, helping Lansing come from behind to win the meet over Free State. Makalia has already recorded three state-qualifying times in individual events and has played a key role in helping all relay teams achieve state-qualifying marks.
