Lansing TeamMates Leaders Attend National Conference to Strengthen Student Mentoring

Lansing USD 469 continues to invest in meaningful relationships that help students thrive.

This July, TeamMates Program Coordinator Becky Wecas and Lansing Middle School TeamMates Building Coordinator Emerald Peters traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, to attend the National TeamMates Mentoring Conference. The annual conference brings together TeamMates coordinators and leaders from across the country to share best practices, celebrate successes, and learn new strategies for supporting students through mentoring.

TeamMates is a nationally recognized school-based, one-to-one mentoring program that focuses on building positive relationships centered on each student's strengths. By connecting students with caring adult mentors from the community, the program helps foster confidence, resilience, and meaningful personal growth.

The 2026-27 school year marks the third year of the Lansing USD 469 TeamMates chapter. Since its launch, the program has continued to grow, with several Lansing Middle School sixth-grade students still meeting regularly with the same community mentors they were matched with as fourth graders. These long-term relationships provide consistency, encouragement, and a trusted connection as students navigate important academic and personal milestones.

Lansing USD 469 is grateful for the mentors who generously volunteer their time and for the staff members who work behind the scenes to ensure students have access to these life-changing relationships.
