Leavenworth-Lansing Chamber Leadership Class Visits Lansing High School

On Thursday, July 23, Lansing USD 469 had the pleasure of welcoming members of the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class to Lansing High School for an inside look at the district's mission, strategic priorities, and innovative educational opportunities.

The meeting began with a welcome from Superintendent Marty Kobza, who shared an overview of Lansing USD 469, highlighting the district's five learning campuses, more than 2,650 students, over 450 employees, and the district's commitment to preparing every student for success. Mr. Kobza also discussed the district's strategic priorities of Student Safety, Student Achievement, Fiscal Responsibility, Staff Excellence, and Community Partnerships, emphasizing how these focus areas guide decision-making across the district.

Director of Teaching & Learning and Director of Kansas Heartland Virtual Academy, Miles Azzeh, then introduced guests to the growth and success of Kansas Heartland Virtual Academy (KHVA). Participants learned how the academy was developed to expand learning opportunities for students across Kansas while supporting personalized instruction, flexible scheduling, and the district's Whole Child Approach to Learning. Mr. Azzeh also shared how KHVA has evolved from a local program into a statewide virtual learning option serving families from communities across Kansas, while providing both educational opportunities and long-term financial sustainability for the district.

The presentation concluded with Lansing High School Principal Dr. Alan Penrose, who highlighted the many accomplishments of Lansing High School students. From impressive Advanced Placement participation and dual-credit opportunities to career pathways, internships, and Kansas Seal of Biliteracy recipients, Dr. Penrose showcased how Lansing High School prepares students to be college-, career-, service-, and life-ready. He also celebrated the school's success beyond the classroom, including state championships in girls swimming and forensics, outstanding music achievements, and continued excellence in athletics.

Lansing USD 469 appreciates the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce for its continued partnership and for investing in leadership development throughout our community!
