Lansing Middle School art teacher Emily Bucher received a special recognition this week after being selected as one of three area educators honored through a community-wide Teacher Appreciation Giveaway organized by Restoration 1 of Leavenworth.

The recognition began with Ms. Bucher being nominated by a fellow Lansing Middle School teacher. She went on to be selected as one of three winning educators from 138 validated nominations submitted for teachers throughout Leavenworth, Wyandotte, and Johnson counties.

Restoration 1 of Leavenworth owner Jo Anna Feagans organized the initiative as a way to recognize the many ways teachers go above and beyond for their students, including the time, care, and personal resources they often contribute to their classrooms.

Local businesses and community members contributed more than $2,500 in gift cards, classroom essentials, services, and other items, allowing organizers to create large gift packages for three area educators.

The three winning teachers represented Lansing Middle School, Black Bob Elementary, and Heartland Early Child Center.

While the prizes were a wonderful surprise, organizers said the larger goal was to celebrate educators and recognize the impact they make on students and families every day.
