Student receiving award from VFW

During the May 11 Lansing USD 469 Board of Education meeting, representatives from Lansing VFW Post 12003 recognized Lansing Middle School student Eva Garrett for her achievement in the VFW’s annual Patriot’s Pen program.

The Patriot’s Pen program encourages middle school students across the nation to reflect on themes of patriotism, citizenship, and service through written essays. Eva was recognized for the quality of her submission and her thoughtful participation in the program.

In addition to honoring Eva, the VFW also thanked Lansing Middle School 6th grade ELA teacher Kathy Baughman for her efforts in encouraging student participation in the contest. VFW representatives expressed appreciation for Mrs. Baughman’s support in helping students engage in meaningful opportunities that promote writing, civic understanding, and patriotism.

Lansing USD 469 appreciates the continued partnership and support from Lansing VFW Post 12003 in recognizing and encouraging student achievement and community involvement.
