Lansing Middle School student Matthew Bone was recognized by the Lansing USD 469 Board of Education as the district’s May Student of the Month at the May 11th board meeting.
Matthew was nominated by Lansing Middle School Principal Brooks Jenkins, who praised his leadership, character, and commitment to supporting others throughout the school community.
“Matthew consistently looks out for fellow students, staff, and our school,” his principal shared. “He has been on Student Council for three years and consistently works to make sure he sees the big picture for things our school might need.”
In addition to his leadership within Student Council, Matthew has served as the student representative for Lansing Middle School on the District Site Council, helping provide student voice and perspective on district matters.
What stands out most to staff members, however, is the kindness and care Matthew shows each day. His principal noted that “he is kind and caring” and “can be counted on to always do the right thing.” Whether helping staff members, supporting substitute teachers, or encouraging classmates, Matthew consistently goes above and beyond to make a positive impact.
Staff members especially appreciate the way Matthew supports his peers through both challenges and successes. “When classmates make poor choices, he reaches out to them in a way to provide support for improvement, which shows incredible leadership,” his principal shared.
Matthew’s leadership, empathy, and positive example have made a lasting impact at Lansing Middle School. As his principal reflected, “We will miss him at Lansing Middle School!”
Congratulations to Matthew Bone on being recognized as Lansing USD 469’s May Student of the Month!
