The purpose of this series is to provide factual information about potential operational impacts under different scenarios related to the proposed bond.
We’ve received questions about what would happen if the proposed bond does not pass. Over the next several days, we will outline possible outcomes using information shared during recent public presentations.
Today’s focus: Student access and program opportunities.
Career & Technical Education (CTE)
One of the priorities identified in the district’s community survey was expanded Career and Technical Education.
Currently:
Student interest in programs such as CNA, construction science, and other trades exceeds available seats through partner programs.
For example, there may be more students interested in certain programs than available placement spots.
Some programs have fixed enrollment limits based on partnership agreements.
If the bond does not pass:
Renovation of space to support expanded biomedical, CNA/EMT, culinary, construction, and other CTE pathways would not occur at this time.
Students would continue to access available seats through existing partnerships.
Any future program expansion would depend on facility capacity and available funding.
Early Childhood Programming
The district currently serves approximately 150 early childhood students daily, including students receiving specialized early childhood services.
The proposed bond includes renovations to:
Update roofing, HVAC, electrical, and life-safety systems
Improve building security with a secure entrance
Modernize restrooms and learning spaces
If the bond does not pass:
The building would continue operating.
System upgrades and renovations would need to be prioritized within available operational and capital funding.
Larger-scale updates may occur over a longer timeframe.
Safety & Security Enhancements
The proposed bond includes safety-related upgrades such as:
Secure vestibule enhancements
Additional protective window film in designated areas
Continued camera and system improvements
If the bond does not pass:
Safety improvements would continue to be evaluated and implemented as funding allows.
Comprehensive upgrades may be phased in over time based on available resources.
Middle School Track & High School Tennis Courts
· The middle school track is used regularly by physical education classes and student programs.
· The high school tennis courts have experienced surface and structural challenges.
If the bond does not pass:
Replacement or reconstruction projects would not move forward at this time.
Facilities would continue to be monitored and maintained within existing funding parameters.
Future improvements would depend on available resources and prioritization.
Summary
If the bond does not pass, Lansing USD469 will continue operating and serving students.
The district would continue to maintain facilities and provide programming within existing financial structures. Proposed renovations and expansions included in the bond would not move forward unless approved by voters.
In the coming days, we will outline additional “What If” scenarios related to insurance costs, construction pricing, and financing options.
