Public Education is a shared investment Across Generations

On average, it costs approximately $15,000 per student per year to provide public education in Kansas. Over the course of a full K-12 education, that totals nearly $195,000 per child.

It’s rare for any one taxpayer to contribute $195,000 in school taxes for a single student. Public education works because we all share in the investment.

For families currently enrolled in Lansing schools, this amount represents the public investment that supports their child’s education.

For families whose children have already graduated, or for residents who may not have children in the system, it reflects the same community support that helped educate previous generations.

Public education is structured as a community-wide service, supported by taxpayers to benefit the broader public.

Community schools contribute to:

  • Educating future workforce members

  • Supporting local economic stability

  • Maintaining community infrastructure

  • Providing educational opportunities for all resident children

Many residents benefited from that investment when their children were in Lansing schools, and today’s bond proposal focuses on maintaining the facilities that make that education possible for the next generation.
