Lansing High School Choirs Earn Outstanding Results at State Music Festival

Lansing High School Choir students delivered an exceptional performance at the KSHSAA State Music Solo & Small Ensemble Festival, continuing a strong tradition of musical excellence.

This year, LHS Choirs earned 13 “I” - Outstanding ratings out of 21 qualifying performances. This is the second-highest total in school history. All 21 student performances received either a “I” (Outstanding) or “II” (Excellent) rating, highlighting the consistent quality and preparation of Lansing’s singers.

At the festival, each student prepared and performed two selections for a judge and received detailed feedback using an 80-point rubric. The experience provides valuable insight while challenging students to grow as musicians.

Over the past five years, 60 LHS Choir soloists have earned a “I” rating at State, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects both student dedication and the strength of the program.

Director Brian J. White emphasized the growth and effort behind this year’s results.

“Over 20 of our 30 entrants this year were doing this for the first time, showcasing the benefits of learning through observing last year's students and a classroom culture that empowers them to be successful,” said White. “These results are the culmination of work ethic being combined with talent in order to produce an exemplary product. Our students have shown that potential can be realized through intentional practice and a growth mindset. I could not be prouder of them. They are ideal representatives for our community.”

Congratulations to all of this year’s participants for representing Lansing with pride at the state level.
