State Large Group Results - LHS Choirs Extend Streak of Exemplary Performances Graphic

The Lansing High School Choirs recently performed at the State Large Group Festival contest and achieved outstanding results. LHS had three choirs perform, the maximum permitted by KSHSAA. Each group (Men’s Chorus, Women’s Ensemble, and the Legacy Singers) performed a set of standard choral literature for three judges, who scored them on an 80-point rubric, resulting in ratings from I to V (I = Outstanding, III = Average, V = Ineffective).

We are pleased to announce that all three choirs not only earned an overall “I” rating, but also received a “I” rating on all nine individual judge rubrics. This marks the sixth consecutive year the LHS Choirs have accomplished this feat, with their last 18 choirs earning a “I” rating at the KSHSAA State Large Group Festival.

Senior Abby Dominick, a member of two of the choirs, shared:

“Participating in State Large Group is an amazing opportunity and experience. This was my third year attending the event, and each year has brought me great joy. It’s incredible to think that years ago our students were experiencing the same successes we are still achieving today. It holds personal significance to me, as my sister was part of starting our current streak of outstanding ratings.

“Our choirs are dedicated, spending months leading up to the event working hard every day. All of this effort has brought us closer together, as we shared a collective mindset of striving for greatness. I am proud of my classmates for being patient with one another as we continued to learn and grow. It was empowering to share the results of our classroom work and to see the outcomes from other schools as well. I’m grateful for these experiences and will carry them with me beyond graduation.”

The LHS Choirs will present their final concert of the year on May 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the LHS auditorium. The concert is open to the public, and admission is free.
