Members of the Lansing High School Band had a wonderful and memorable trip to Washington, D.C. over Spring Break 2026.
The students traveled to Washington to perform at the Armed Forces Retirement Home, the National Museum of the Marine Corps, and with the retired conductor and founder of the Capitol Wind Symphony.
In addition to their successful performances, the band was able to experience our nation’s capital with a tour of the Capitol Building, the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, the National Archives, the FDR memorial, the MLK, Jr. memorial, the National Museum of the United States Army, multiple Smithsonian museums, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the United States Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), WWII Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial, and the People’s House museum with a full recreation of the Oval Office.
In a very moving moment for the students, four members of the band, Noah Bell, Genevieve Gillespie, Christopher Klingman, and Kaleigh Sims were able to participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery.
Members of the band and band staff would like to extend a special thank you to our parents who traveled with the band to chaperone and drive our equipment truck. We truly couldn’t have made this experience happen without them.
