Lansing High School alumnus Nick Kappeas is putting his skills to work as part of the Construction Technology program at Kansas City Kansas Community College – Pioneer Career Center (KCKCC PCC). Through hands-on projects and real-world applications, Nick and his classmates are gaining valuable experience that prepares them for successful careers in the construction industry.
Recently, construction students completed a project focused on pressurized leak testing, a key step in ensuring plumbing systems are properly sealed and functional. Students assembled copper pipes with fittings, introduced compressed air, and then submerged the pipes in water to check for leaks, watching for air bubbles as an indicator of weak points in the system.
This type of training helps students like Nick develop both technical precision and problem-solving abilities, which are vital in modern construction work. By practicing these skills in a controlled, instructional environment, students are better prepared to enter the workforce with confidence and competence.
Nick’s success is one of many examples of how Lansing graduates continue to thrive in college and career pathways across the region.
We’re proud to celebrate Nick’s achievements and look forward to seeing where his skills and determination will take him next.
