Students from Lansing High School’s Robotics class, Engineering Design & Development classes, and Lansing Middle School Advanced Studies students from Mr. Yoakam’s class are preparing proposals for this year’s Battle of the Brains competition, hosted by Burns & McDonnell.
As part of their research process, the students took a field trip to Science City on Wednesday to explore current exhibits and gather inspiration for their own innovative submissions. The visit gave students the opportunity to see firsthand how science, technology, and creativity combine to create interactive learning experiences for visitors of all ages.
The teams will continue refining their exhibit proposals in the coming weeks as they prepare for the 2025 Battle of the Brains competition. The Battle of the Brains, hosted by Burns & McDonnell, is Kansas City’s premier K–12 STEM competition that challenges students to design an interactive exhibit concept for Science City. Since its launch in 2011, the program has engaged more than 30,000 students across 55 school districts, inspiring creativity and innovation in science, technology, engineering, and math. Teams compete for more than $155,000 in grants, with the grand prize winners earning the opportunity to collaborate with Burns & McDonnell professionals to bring their exhibit idea to life at Science City.
Lansing USD469 wishes our team good luck as they prepare for the competition!
