Lansing USD469 is proud to share that students from both Lansing High School and Lansing Intermediate School recently performed at Kansas Speedway during a NASCAR race weekend. This marks the fourth time in the past three years that our high school program has had the honor of performing, and the second time for our intermediate school students.
The Lansing High School Choir, under the direction of Mr. Brian J. White, performed “God Bless America” before the start of the race.
Senior Abby Dominick reflected on the experience, saying:
“Singing at NASCAR with our choir was such a surreal experience. It is something that I never imagined I'd be able to do, let alone three years in a row. Singing in front of so many people at a huge event made us stronger as we worked together to prepare. Getting to spend the whole day with my friends and fellow classmates as we watched the race bonded us with memories that will last a lifetime. I'm so grateful for the memories and the opportunity to be able to perform at the NASCAR race.”
Students from Lansing Intermediate School once again took part in pre-race activities, representing their school and community values of citizenship and pride. Alongside their families, students enjoyed exploring the infield, viewing race cars, and walking the track. The highlight of their day was leading the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance before the race began.
LIS Principal Martin Altieri reflected on the opportunity, sharing:
“Last year was the first time Lansing Intermediate students performed the Pledge of Allegiance before the NASCAR race. The feedback we received from students, parents, and the community was overwhelmingly positive, so when we were asked to do it again, I gladly agreed. The race is a great venue to promote Lansing students and the values that make our community, and nation, unique. We want our students to be proud of the Lansing community and the country they live in - there is not one better!”
NASCAR Kansas Speedway has become a valued partner for Lansing USD469, providing opportunities for our students to perform on a national stage. Discounted tickets were once again made available to Lansing staff and families, ensuring that many could attend and cheer on our performers.
We are thrilled to announce that this partnership will continue next fall, offering more chances for our students to shine in front of thousands of fans.
Thank you to NASCAR and Kansas Speedway for supporting our students and creating memories that will last a lifetime!
