High School Mural

Lansing High School alum Ryanna Mize (Class of 2025) and student Jadyn Bollin (Class of 2026) recently brought a creative vision to life on the east window of the high school gymnasium. Their artwork not only adds beauty to the space but also serves as a lasting gift to the school community.

The idea for the project began last spring as staff looked for a more permanent alternative to the white paper that is traditionally taped over the windows to block sunlight. With so many people using the gym, the paper solution never lasted long. That’s when the thought emerged - why not transform the windows into an art project, leaving a legacy for students to enjoy for years to come?

As an office aide and art student last school year, Ryanna was approached with the idea and eagerly embraced the challenge. After consulting with art teacher Mr. Barnes, she began brainstorming designs. Ryanna spent two days thinking about what to create, and once inspiration struck, she sketched her design in just 20 minutes. Using charcoal, she transferred her drawing to larger paper and experimented with methods to transfer it onto the window.

When the project initially stalled, Ryanna returned after the school year to keep it moving forward. Fellow student-artist Jadyn Bollin stepped in to help bring Ryanna’s design to life with paint. Together, the two created a piece of student artwork that will brighten the gym for years to come.

“Ryanna is super proud to have designed the window, and Jadyn is equally proud to have brought it to life,” said LHS Secretary Mona Hauver, who spearheaded the project. “We are so thankful to these girls for giving their time and talent to make this idea a reality.”
