Students at Lansing High School recently found a creative way to express their gratitude for a valuable addition to their learning environment: classroom Chromebooks. Thanks to the support of district leaders Superintendent Marty Kobza, Director of Technology Brian Burns, and Director of Teaching & Learning Miles Azzeh, students in Shannon Long’s classes now have daily access to Chromebooks—an upgrade that has made an impact on their writing and career preparation.
The classes, which include Career Life Planning, use Chromebooks exclusively for writing and electronic assignments. “We use the Chromebooks exclusively in my classes for all writing and electronic use to increase our real-world job skills like keyboarding speed and accuracy,” said Ms. Long. “The student's writing overall is much improved with the use of the Chromebooks. I cut hours off grading resumes due to a significant reduction in writing errors in my Career Life Planning class.”
To thank the district leaders for their support, the students created a one-of-a-kind thank-you card in the shape of a Chromebook. The design was brought to life by Long’s teaching assistant, Owynn Bell, who transformed the idea into a student-made tribute to the new technology.
“I have to give credit to my amazing TA Owynn Bell who saw my vision in what I wanted the card to look like a Chromebook and then created it for me so be sure to mention the card's creator in your show out.”
