The Lansing High School girls’ swim team is making waves this season, achieving unprecedented success and setting new records across the board. After a standout boys' season, where Zach Mendez set state records and earned All-American honors, the girls’ team is carrying that momentum into what is shaping up to be another fantastic season.
So far, the team has dominated in every meet, finishing either first or second in each competition. This past weekend, they earned a runner-up finish at the Shawnee Mission Invitational, one of the largest meets of the year, which featured 21 schools. The only team to beat them was last year’s 6A state champions, Blue Valley North. Lansing placed higher than last year’s 5A state champs, Blue Valley Southwest.
In addition to relay success, the team has set new school records. Both the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay established new benchmarks. Individually, juniors Mary Archambault and Makaila Hayes also made their mark, setting school records in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, respectively.
With all three of the team’s relays now ranked in the top three statewide across all classifications, the Lansing girls’ swim team has established itself as one of the top programs in Kansas.
If you’re looking to see one of the top teams in action, be sure to come out and support the Lansing girls’ swim team at their next home meet on Tuesday, May 6th, at 4:30 p.m. The event will also serve as Senior Day, so it's a great opportunity to show your support for these talented athletes!
