Lansing USD 469 is proud to celebrate Dr. Rebecca Dalton, Lansing Elementary School Assistant Principal and Special Education Coordinator, for her contributions as a member of the Early Childhood Leadership Cadre which is the recipient of the 2026 Whelan Leadership for Learning Award.
The Early Childhood Leadership Cadre brings together leaders representing early childhood programs from 14 school districts across the region. Dr. Dalton represents Lansing USD 469 as part of this collaborative group of educators committed to strengthening early childhood education and creating high-quality learning opportunities for young children and families.
Presented by the Recognition & Dissemination Committee of the University of Kansas Department of Special Education, the Whelan Leadership for Learning Award honors the legacy of Dr. Richard Whelan, who was known for his leadership, collaboration, and advocacy for children, particularly those with learning and behavioral challenges.
The 2026 award recognizes the Early Childhood Leadership Cadre for its exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthening and sustaining high-quality early childhood programs. Through collaboration, shared expertise, and the implementation of innovative, evidence-based practices, cadre members are helping advance opportunities for young children and families throughout the region.
For Lansing USD 469, Dr. Dalton's involvement in this work is especially meaningful. As Assistant Principal at Lansing Elementary School and a leader connected to the district's Early Childhood program, she has the opportunity to collaborate with early childhood leaders from across Northeast Kansas, share expertise, and bring ideas and best practices back to Lansing.
The recognition also celebrates the important work happening throughout Lansing USD 469's Early Childhood program and the educators who help build a strong foundation for Lansing's youngest learners.
According to the award announcement, the cadre's collective efforts are helping ensure school readiness, promote lifelong success, and create a strong foundation for future learning in the communities its members serve.
