Lansing Educators Recognized at Kansas Region 2 Teacher of the Year Banquet

Lansing USD 469 was proud to celebrate two outstanding educators at the Kansas Region 2 Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet held on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Cheryl Sander and Brandy Hamilton, the district’s 2025 Teachers of the Year, were recognized among an exceptional group of educators from across the region.

Both educators were originally honored last spring at the Lansing Educational Foundation (LEF) Breakfast in May 2025, where they were named Lansing USD 469 Teachers of the Year.

Cheryl Sander, a teacher at Lansing Elementary School, was named one of three semifinalists at the Region 2 event. Known for creating a classroom environment where students feel a strong sense of belonging, Mrs. Sander encourages learners to embrace challenges and grow with confidence. Her innovative approach, including the use of instructional technology and a focus on meeting individual student needs, has led to measurable student growth and a positive classroom culture. She is also actively involved in strengthening connections between school and community through her work supporting the district’s PTA.

Brandy Hamilton, a 7th-grade Language Arts teacher at Lansing Middle School, brings decades of experience and a passion for student-centered learning. Her classroom emphasizes both rigor and respect, challenging students to think critically, communicate effectively, and take ownership of their learning. In addition to her work in the classroom, Hamilton serves as a team leader, contributes to curriculum development, and coaches track and girls’ basketball. Her leadership and commitment help students build skills that extend well beyond middle school.

Lansing USD 469 looks forward to continuing this tradition of excellence. The district will be announcing the 2026 Lansing USD 469 Teacher of the Year recipients and Educational Support Professionals of the Year later this week.

Congratulations to Mrs. Sander and Mrs. Hamilton for this well-deserved recognition and for the positive impact that make each day in Lansing USD 469.
