Jordan Fuller, Kindergarten Teacher
Question: How long have you worked in Lansing USD469?
Answer: This is my first year!
Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?
Answer: I am a kindergarten teacher in the school district and currently in my first year of teaching. I have the privilege of working with students as they begin their school journey and develop foundational skills in reading, math, and social-emotional learning. My goal is to create a classroom that feels safe, joyful, and welcoming, where students feel comfortable being themselves and excited to learn.
Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?
Answer: What I enjoy most about my role is building relationships with my students and getting to know who they are. One of my favorite parts of the day is our morning meeting, when students share their “good things.” It is always so fun (and often very silly) to hear what the kiddos consider the highlight of their day, and those moments help set a positive tone for our classroom. Seeing students grow in confidence and celebrate their small successes throughout the year is what makes teaching so meaningful to me.
Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?
Answer: When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and doing different kinds of crafts. I love anything creative and relaxing, and I’m always finding new projects to try.
Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?
Answer: I was homeschooled during kindergarten, so this is actually my very first year being in a kindergarten classroom. It feels especially meaningful to now be teaching the very grade I never experienced in a traditional school setting. That experience has given me a unique perspective and reminds me how important it is to create a classroom where every child feels comfortable, supported, and excited to learn.
Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?
Answer: One of the most heartwarming experiences for me is seeing the growth my students make over the year, especially when a student who once struggled begins to feel confident and proud of themselves. Those moments, when a child realizes they can do hard things, are incredibly special and remind me why I chose teaching.
Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?
Answer: My advice to students is to always try your best and never be afraid to make mistakes. Learning takes time, and mistakes are part of how we grow. Be kind to yourself, stay curious, and remember that your teachers are always cheering you on.
