Nicole Jeffers, 3rd Grade Teacher

Question: How long have you worked in Lansing USD469?

Answer: This is my first year.

Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?

Answer: I'm a proud mom of four and wife to an Army veteran. The Army took us all over the United States, and we finally settled in Lansing. For the last nine years, I taught on post as a first grade teacher and interventionist. As a resident of Lansing, and mom to students in the district, I was called to teach at USD 469. I lovingly call my classroom Camp I Can Adventure. It is my goal to help students find their full potential by first believing in their abilities and applying them to their academic achievements. A positive mindset produces positive steps in our lives. Instilling this mindset to our future leaders is my top goal as an educator in the district.

Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?

Answer: The thing I enjoy most about teaching at LES is the sense of community within our building and district. I was born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas. The community in Manhattan fostered my love for teaching and a deep connection to others. I see that same connection within our walls. I work with an amazing group of ladies that bring many experiences to help me learn more as an educator. It is great to see both new and experienced teachers share their ideas and methods to help each other.

Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?

Answer: When I'm not working, I'm spending time with my family, reading a book, or solving word and jigsaw puzzles. Our family likes to find places to hike when the weather is warmer.

Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?

Answer: I was the team captain of my collegiate dance team. Stinger up!

Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?

Answer: One of my best moments happened just a few weeks ago during a PRIDE assembly at our school. The moment wasn't the moment I received the Integrity Award, but the reaction of my class upon me hearing my name. We all joined together for a big, class hug. It made me realize I was right where I needed to be.

Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?

Answer: Life leads you on many adventures and paths. If you set your mind to do something, do it with purpose. Remember that mistakes are welcome, failure leads to success, and being open to advice from others can lead you to strong friendships and personal success.
