Cardio Drumming with 2nd graders

Cold winter days don’t stop the fun or the movement in Barb Robinson’s second-grade classroom.

On days when students have to stay inside for recess, Mrs. Robinson introduced Cardio Drumming as a way to keep kids active, smiling, and engaged. Using pool noodles cut in half as drumsticks, students follow along with cardio drumming routines led by Kent Hamilton, an instructor known for his energetic and upbeat approach.

As the music plays, students mirror a variety of movements and exercises demonstrated in the routine, sometimes drumming, sometimes moving their whole bodies, and even squeezing in exercises like jumping jacks along the way. It’s a full-body workout disguised as fun.

Great work, Mrs. Robinson!
