Turkey Challenge at Lansing Elementary School

As we headed into Thanksgiving break, our Lansing Elementary School staff found a fun way to connect with one another through a Turkey Cake Team-Building Challenge organized by Assistant Principal Jen Mains.

All staff members had the opportunity to sign up, and teams were randomly assigned. That mix-and-match approach was part of the fun and gave people the chance to work with coworkers they don’t always get to collaborate with during the school day.

Cakes were provided ahead of time, and teams had a few days to dream up a plan for their turkey design. The only rule was that everything had to be made from food-only items. From candy details to creative toppings, teams came ready with ideas and plenty of personality.

The decorating officially started at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, with teams getting 30 minutes before students arrived to begin building their creations. Throughout the day, staff members rotated into the conference room whenever they had time to keep working. At the end of the school day, teams had a final 30-minute window to add those last finishing touches before judging.

After school, LIS Principal Martin Altieri and Director of Communications Sharon BUrns had the tough job of selecting winners:

  • Most Creative: “Talk Turkey To Me”

  • Funniest: “You Ain’t Seen Stuffin’ Yet”

A big thank-you to Ms. Mains for organizing this event, and to every team that jumped in to make the day sweeter.
