THird graders on field trip

Lansing Elementary School third graders are putting their classroom learning into action through a hands-on experience at the School of Economics during the week of October 27 and Nov 2. The trip gives students an exciting opportunity to apply what they’ve learned about the world of work and business in a real-world setting.

Before attending, students spent time in class learning about wants and needs, goods and services, and producers and consumers. They also completed job applications, collaborated in teams to create shop names and posters, and even filled out loan applications to prepare for their big day as business owners and employees.

During their visit, students take on different roles within their businesses, earning two paychecks throughout the day. They use their earnings to buy lunch and shop for items to take home, all while managing their money wisely. At the end of the day, students find out whether their business turned a profit, helping them see firsthand how effort, teamwork, and smart financial decisions can impact success.
