Kansas State Department of Education’s Insight Podcast hosted by Kansas Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson, will launch on Thursday, March 27.
This new podcast explores the people, policies, and progress shaping education in Kansas—topics that impact not only our schools but also our workforce, communities, and economy.
Our first episode, "From Slate to Screen: The Journey of Public Education," takes a step back in time to better understand how we got here. From one-room schoolhouses with slate boards to today’s dynamic, technology-driven classrooms, education in Kansas has evolved significantly. But what policies, reforms, and pivotal moments shaped this journey? And what lessons can we apply to the future?
We invite you to share this opportunity with educators and parents so they can engage with the insights and discussions that influence the future of Kansas education and workforce development.
Insight Podcast is available on Spotify and wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts.
New episodes will air the second Thursday of each month beginning in April. Please let me know if there is a particular topic you would like covered on a future episode.

Day 5 of National School Counseling week asks mental health professionals and stakeholders to reflect on what kind of school counselor students need.

On the third day of National School Counseling week our school counselors reflected on what they need in order to thrive in their positions. Our school social workers, school psychologists, and school counselors are intrinsically motivated by the growth of our students and sense of community that being a part of the Lansing team and community provides.

It’s Day 2 of National School Counseling Week! Today’s theme encourages counselors to reflect on how they know their students are thriving.
At USD 469, our school counselors, social workers, and school psychologists are dedicated to supporting the success and well-being of our Lansing Lions—both inside and outside the classroom. But what does student success really look like?
Our Lansing School Counselors know their students are thriving when they are:
🦁 Persevering through challenges
🦁 At their best, even on tough days
🦁 Excited about learning and growth
🦁 Achieving their goals, big and small
🦁 Advocating for themselves and others
Thank you to our incredible counseling team for fostering an environment where students can truly thrive!

🎉 It’s National School Counseling Week! 🎉
In honor of this special week, we will be sharing a new graphic each day to highlight the incredible work our Lansing School Counselors and Mental Health Team do to support our students. From academic growth to career exploration and social-emotional development, their impact is felt in every aspect of student success!
Today’s graphic showcases how our school counselors help students thrive in and beyond the classroom.

Lansing USD 469 is excited to share the official 2025-2026 school calendar with our families, staff, and community!
The full calendar is now available for download on our website: https://www.usd469.net/page/calendars

Need help buying food for your children when school is out for summer?
Learn how the Kansas SUN Bucks program can help you!
SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, is a program to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. Families will get a one-time benefit of $120 per year for each eligible child to help buy groceries during the summer months. Children who get SUN Bucks can still participate in other summer meal programs. Receiving SUN Bucks will not affect children or families’ immigration status.
If a child’s household did not receive a letter from DCF in January 2025 regarding SUN Bucks eligibility, they can apply through the DCF self-service portal at dcfapp.kees.ks.gov beginning Monday, Jan. 27, 2025. Applications for 2025 SUN Bucks must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 29, 2025.
