Need Help Buying Food for Your Children This Summer? SUN Bucks Can Help

As the school year winds down, many families begin planning for the summer months, including how to keep children nourished while school meals are not available. The Kansas SUN Bucks program is here to help.

SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, provides financial support to families to purchase groceries for their school-aged children during the summer. Eligible families will receive a one-time benefit of $120 per child per year to help cover the cost of food while school is out of session.

Children who receive SUN Bucks benefits can still take part in other summer meal programs, giving families additional options to ensure their children have access to healthy meals.

It’s important to note that receiving SUN Bucks does not impact a family’s immigration status.

Who is Eligible?

Some households will be automatically enrolled in the program. These families will receive a letter from the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) after January 2026 with details about their eligibility.

Other families may need to apply.

How to Apply

Applications are now being accepted for Summer 2026 SUN Bucks benefits. Benefits will be distributed during the summer months.

Families who are not automatically enrolled can apply through the DCF Self-Service Portal: https://dcfapp.kees.ks.gov
