Lansing High School Students Compete in Academic WorldQuest

Two teams of Lansing High School students recently represented Lansing USD469 at the Academic WorldQuest regional competition held Saturday, March 7th, demonstrating strong teamwork across a wide range of global topics.

Academic WorldQuest is a team-based academic competition organized by the International Relations Council of Kansas City that challenges students through multiple rounds of questions focused on world affairs, geography, history, and current events.

One Lansing team finished 4th overall, just two points shy of a third-place finish. Team members included Nathan Duckworth, Chris Silva, Mia Jaskowiec, and Anna Brown, who were competing together for their second year.

A second Lansing team also participated in the event this year. Team members included Nichole Mack, Piper Wagner, Gabriel Hawkins, and Simon Tanner, all competing in the event for the first time.

Senior Chris Silva reflected on the experience, saying, “It was a good way to practice teamwork and was academically challenging.”

Julie Hinckley, Lansing High School’s gifted facilitator who accompanied the students to the competition, praised the teams’ effort and preparation.

"The students worked hard and competed against some top-notch schools. There were nine rounds, and our 4th-place team had at least one perfect round. I am proud of their effort and look forward to competing next year."

The competition typically includes ten rounds of questions, although this year’s event featured nine rounds of competition.

Great work, Lions!
