Question: How long have you worked in Lansing USD469?
Answer: This is my first year
Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?
Answer: I moved here from Virginia to be closer to family in 2012. I have 3 children who have been apart of the district since 2020 and we have been so blessed to have THE BEST teachers and support. This is my first year working as a para. I help support the classroom, needs, and development for 3 and 4 year olds.
Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?
Answer: I have enjoyed how rewarding this has personally felt - healing in a way. I love all of the connections and special moments I have made with the littles to help guide them socially and emotionally.
Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?
Answer: When I am not working you can find me out with my 3 kiddos. We love to go to Science City and the movies. I love reading! I also love starting a new craft and then forgetting about it in 2 weeks 😂
Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?
Answer: When I was in Kindergarten, I dressed up as a paleontologist for career day. I love dinosaurs!
Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?
Answer: I have been so fortunate to experience many great moments since the start of the school year. One that made a big impact on my confidence was when my boss, Becca, gave me a thank you note. It made me feel so welcomed and that I am right where I need to be in this season of my life.
Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?
Answer: I often find myself helping students in similar ways that I parent my children. Reminders to be kind to yourself - that some moments are hard, but you will get through them because you are smart, brave, and strong. When I hear kids say that they can’t do something, I always tell them that it’s okay that they can’t do it right now. The more we practice and ask questions, the easier it gets!
