Greg Penfield

January is Board Appreciation Month, a time to recognize and thank the dedicated individuals who serve our students, staff, and community through their leadership on the Lansing USD 469 Board of Education. We are pleased to highlight Mr. Greg Penfield, a recently elected board member currently serving his first term.

About Greg Penfield
Greg and his family moved to Lansing in 2018 following his retirement from a 30-year active-duty military career in the U.S. Army. He and his wife have a daughter, a son, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren who all live in the Kansas City area. His daughter is a 2020 graduate of Lansing High School.

Professional & Community Service
Greg currently serves as the Assistant Dean of Academics (Faculty and Curriculum Innovation) at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. A lifelong learner, he earned an undergraduate degree in Economics from Oklahoma State University, two master’s degrees in Leadership and Management (Webster University) and National Security Studies (Army War College), and a post-graduate degree in Higher Education Administration from Liberty University.

Beyond his professional career, Greg has remained actively involved in the Leavenworth and Lansing communities. He previously served as a baseball coach and umpire for Leavenworth Parks and Recreation and as an umpire for American Legion Baseball. He is also well known as the “Voice of the Lions” for Lansing High School sports. In addition, Greg is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans associations.
