January is Board Appreciation Month, a time to recognize and thank the dedicated individuals who serve our students, staff, and community through their leadership on the Lansing USD 469 Board of Education. We are proud to highlight Mr. Kerry Brungardt, who was selected as Board President at the January 12, 2026, Board of Education meeting.
About Kerry Brungardt
Mr. Brungardt is, first and foremost, a husband and dad. He was married for 33 years to his late wife, Michele Brungardt, and has two sons, Nick and Joe, both proud graduates of Lansing USD 469.
Professional & Community Service
Mr. Brungardt dedicated his career to education, serving as a teacher at Fort Leavenworth for eight years before becoming the principal of Lansing Middle School, a role he held with pride for 31 years. Now retired, his service to the Lansing community continues through his role on the Lansing City Council, where he has served since 2009. In November 2023, he was elected to the Lansing Board of Education.
Why He Serves
“I absolutely love Lansing and USD 469. The community and staff have been so supportive of me and my family. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the community and school district. I want to do everything possible to support the students, faculty, and support staff of Lansing USD 469.”
Outside the Board Room
Mr. Brungardt is an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Leavenworth, where he and his son Joe cantor at Mass at least twice a month. In his free time, he enjoys home improvement projects, traveling, attending KU sporting events, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
Thank You
We are thankful for Mr. Brungardt’s lifelong dedication to education and his continued leadership and service to Lansing USD 469. Please join us in congratulating him on his role as Board President and thanking him for his commitment to our district.
As part of Board Appreciation Month, a special video was shared at the January Board of Education meeting featuring students guessing what the Board of Education does, followed by messages from students and staff thanking board members for their service to Lansing USD 469.
