Bayne Yoakam and Bruce Blankartz Headed to Washington, D.C.

Lansing USD469 congratulates debaters Bayne Yoakam and Bruce Blankartz on an incredible accomplishment this weekend!

Our LHS Debate team had a standout performance at a long, highly competitive qualifying tournament hosted at Shawnee Mission South. After hours of tough rounds against strong opponents, Bayne and Bruce rose to the top and earned a spot at the NCFL Grand National Tournament.

That qualification is a big deal. The NCFL Grand Nationals bring together some of the best student debaters from across the country, and Bayne and Bruce will now have the opportunity to represent Lansing on a national stage in Washington, D.C., over Memorial Day Weekend.

This kind of success doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from sharp thinking and the willingness to keep showing up and competing at a high level, round after round. Bayne and Bruce, we are proud of you for the way you represent yourselves, your team, and our district.

A huge thank you as well to Debate and Forensics Teacher Kevin Krouse for his leadership and commitment to students. This program continues to give our learners meaningful opportunities to grow their skills, find their voice, and challenge themselves in the best ways.

Congratulations again, Bayne and Bruce! We’ll be cheering you on as you head to Washington, D.C. Go Lions!
