Chili Cookoff Competition winners

The Lansing Transportation Department turned up the heat on Wednesday, November 19th, as staff gathered for the department’s annual Chili Cook-Off. The event brought together bus drivers, monitors, mechanics, office staff, and district office staff for an afternoon of good food and friendly rivalry.

This year’s competition featured eleven talented chili chefs, each bringing their best recipes to the table. A panel of judges from the District Office and Facilities & Maintenance Department sampled all entries before selecting the top three winners. Transportation employees also cast their votes to determine the Fan Favorite.

The event was organized by Janine Shields, Routing Coordinator, who once again did an outstanding job coordinating all the details and ensuring a smooth, fun-filled experience for everyone involved.

Winners
  • 1st Place: Kim Newton

  • 2nd Place: Hunter Hempen (who also earned the Fan Favorite award)

  • 3rd Place: Constance Slavens — marking her third consecutive year finishing in third place, a fun tradition that earned plenty of laughs and applause.

The Chili Cook-Off has become a beloved tradition in the Transportation Department, giving staff a chance to connect, share their culinary skills, and enjoy a bit of light-hearted competition as the holiday season approaches.
