Paul Hanson, LHS Physical Education Teacher

Question: How long have you worked in Lansing USD469?

Answer:  3rd year

Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?

Answer: I am a Physical Education teacher at Lansing High School, where I teach Health, PE, and Weights. I’m the Head Wrestling Coach for both LHS and LMS, and I also assist with middle school football and high school baseball. Outside of school, my wife and I have three kids and spend most of our time at their sports events. In our free time, we enjoy attending LHS events and being part of the Lansing community.

Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?

Answer: I enjoy getting to know the students and seeing their progress from year to year. It’s great watching them work hard and find success in different areas of school and sports. I also enjoy the culture and school pride here at Lansing. Our students are involved in so many activities, and it’s awesome to see how everyone supports each other. The student sections, themed events, and overall school spirit make it a great place to be. It’s always a great day to be a Lion!

Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?

Answer: When I’m not working, I spend most of my time with my family. We stay busy with our kids’ sports. I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, and being outdoors.

Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?

Answer: Winning the UKC and Regional Championships in 2024 was an exciting experience for our wrestling team. Honestly, the wrestling regional and state tournaments are the most exciting events every year. Watching kids accomplish the goals they set for themselves at the throughout of the season is the best part of coaching.

Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?

Answer: Work hard, stay consistent, challenge yourself, and take pride in everything you do. The habits you build now will carry over into every part of your life.
