Lansing Students Experience Hands-On Learning at ACE Trades Day

On Thursday, November 6, Lansing High School students participated in ACE Trades Day, an event sponsored by ACE Mentor and JE Dunn Construction. The experience introduced students to a wide range of career opportunities in the construction industry while providing hands-on learning and professional connections.

Throughout the day, students attended panel discussions featuring experts from various construction trades who shared their personal career journeys and insight into their professions. Students also connected directly with JE Dunn’s trade partners, gaining valuable information about pathways to careers such as electrician, carpenter, ironworker, plumber, pipefitter, insulator, and more.

One highlight of the event was the opportunity for students to engage in interactive, hands-on activities that simulated real-world work across multiple trades. The experience allowed students to explore the skills, teamwork, and precision required in each discipline.

To conclude the day, students were given an exclusive tour of the new Google Data Center currently under construction by JE Dunn. While security protocols prevented photos from being taken on-site, the tour provided a rare look into one of the region’s most advanced construction projects.

Events like ACE Trades Day give Lansing students the chance to explore future careers, connect classroom learning to real-world applications, and envision themselves in high-demand technical professions.
