Lansing High School graduate Lucien Radar is making our district proud through his hands-on learning and career preparation at Kansas City Kansas Community College – Pioneer Career Center (KCKCC PCC). As part of the HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) program, Lucien and his classmates are actively building the skills needed to thrive in the workforce.
Preparing for the Workforce
Students in the HVAC/R program are gaining practical experience by setting up workstations to handle real-world tasks. Recently, they focused on running electrical wires, wiring inside electrical breaker panels, and connecting wires to both breakers and furnaces. These experiences help students understand how to safely and effectively install and service HVAC systems.
A key part of their training includes learning the lockout/tagout safety procedure. This ensures that when students work with electrical systems, they not only protect themselves but also safeguard the people around them. Such procedures are critical for anyone entering the skilled trades.
Building Technical Skills
In addition to safety training, students are practicing how to prep wires to run from breaker panels to service disconnects. These foundational electrical skills are essential for HVAC/R technicians and prepare students like Lucien to handle the demands of the industry with confidence and precision.
Spotlight on Success
Lucien’s dedication in the HVAC/R program demonstrates the strong foundation he built during his time at Lansing High School. His commitment to developing technical expertise reflects the district’s emphasis on preparing students for success beyond graduation, whether in higher education, skilled trades, or the workforce.
Lansing USD469 is proud to celebrate Lucien’s achievements and look forward to seeing the impact he will make in his career!
