Answer:  My primary role is Math Interventionist for 6th-8th grade. I see students that are in need of math instruction to fill instructional gaps. At times, I help my building and the district with organizing/facilitating math content to help improve instruction.

Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?

Answer: I LOVE helping students that struggle with math. When you get to see a student have an ah-ha moment, it makes my day. All students CAN learn math. Being given the opportunity to share in their journey makes my heart happy.

Question:  When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?

Answer: I enjoy gardening, being around my chickens, and researching math instruction.

Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?

Answer: I lived in Alaska for 5 years, and have been very close to a grizzly bear.

Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?

Answer: When I was teaching 6th grade I had a student that started the year telling me that she is horrible at math, and it has never made sense to her. She never offered to answer questions, nor did she want to work with a partner because she was embarrassed that she didn't understand. I made a deal with her to give me a chance to help her, and she agreed. One day her hand shot up in class and she had a ginormous grin. At first she answered quietly. I asked her to repeat the answer like she knew it and she did. That was the beginning of a great year for her.

Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?

Answer: I would tell all students, make this your journey. You are capable of great things, all you have to do is write your story. Set your goals high.
