Lansing High School is opening more doors than ever before for students to earn college credit, technical certifications, and career-ready skills while still in high school. Through Lion Launch, our expanded Post Secondary Asset program, students can now explore a wider range of options designed to meet their unique goals, whether they plan to attend college, enter the workforce, or combine both pathways. More Dual Credit Opportunities
This year, Lansing High School has more than doubled its dual credit offerings through a growing partnership with the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC). Students can now choose from over 20 courses taught right here at LHS, along with online options available through Baker University. By enrolling in these courses, students can begin building a college transcript and potentially save on tuition down the road.
Technical and Career Pathways
For those interested in hands-on training, Lansing students also have access to technical programs through Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) and Highland Community College (HCC). These opportunities allow students to gain certifications in high-demand fields such as welding, automotive technology, culinary arts, precision agriculture, and healthcare - often at little or no cost to families.
Exploration and Flexibility
Not every student knows exactly what they want to do after graduation, and that’s okay. In addition to college credit and technical training, LHS offers more than 30 exploratory courses to help students discover their interests, learn new skills, and prepare for whichever path they choose next.
Balanced Planning is Key
While dual credit and technical programs provide incredible opportunities, Lansing educators caution against overloading schedules. The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) recognizes 9 college credit hours as an ideal benchmark for high school students. Some may successfully take more, but balance is crucial. Too many advanced courses at once can create stress, affect grades, and carry lasting impact on college transcripts.
Tips for Families
Parents and guardians can play an important role in helping their student make the most of these opportunities.
Start with one dual credit course before adding more.
Meet with a school counselor to ensure classes align with long-term goals.
Keep a balanced schedule with time for activities, work, and family.
Celebrate milestones - every credit earned is a step toward the future.
Lion Launch is all about choice, flexibility, and preparing students for what comes next. By combining college credit, technical training, and exploratory courses, Lansing High School is ensuring that every student can chart their own path and build a strong foundation for life after graduation.
