Ian Hodges and Superintendent Kobza

During the July 2025 Board of Education meeting, Lansing High School Social Studies teacher and Boys Assistant Basketball Coach Mr. Ian Hodges was honored for his contributions to students and the school community.

This is the second time Mr. Hodges has received this distinction, with his first recognition occurring in March 2023. Once again, his nomination came directly from a student, an especially meaningful testament to the impact he has in the classroom.

The student’s nomination read:

“He grabs the attention of his students, keeps them on track, and wants them to learn. We need more Mr. Hodges in the teaching world.”

Though brief, this statement captures what many colleagues, families, and students have come to know well: Mr. Hodges brings energy, connection, and relevance into every lesson he teaches.

Mr. Hodges consistently creates a learning environment where students feel both challenged and supported. He not only commands attention, he sparks curiosity, encourages discussion, and fosters a desire to learn more.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Hodges is a valued member of the LHS athletics program. As an assistant coach for the Boys Basketball Team, he models perseverance, integrity, and teamwork. His calm leadership and unwavering support help student-athletes grow both on and off the court.

Superintendent Kobza shared the following at the board meeting:

“To ‘grab the attention’ of students today is no small feat. But Mr. Hodges does more than that. He motivates, connects, and inspires them to be their best. He leaves a lasting impression that extends far beyond a single school year.”

Congratulations to Mr. Hodges on this well-deserved recognition. Lansing is proud to have educators like him who continue to shape a culture of excellence and student-centered learning.
