Lansing USD469 has an exceptional, award-winning Parents as Teachers (PAT) program that serves 72 children from 46 families.
Some key benefits of our Parents as Teachers (PAT) program include:
1. Early Childhood Development Support
PAT helps parents understand and support their child’s developmental milestones from birth through age five. This early intervention can foster better cognitive, language, and social-emotional skills.
2. School Readiness
Children in PAT are often better prepared for school, both academically and socially. The program provides resources and guidance that promote early literacy and problem-solving skills, making the transition to kindergarten smoother.
3. Parental Empowerment
PAT empowers parents by providing them with the knowledge and tools to support their child's learning and development at home. Parents become more confident in their roles, which can lead to stronger family bonds.
4. Personalized Home Visits
Certified parent educators visit homes, offering personalized support tailored to each family’s needs. They assess the child’s development and give suggestions for activities and techniques that nurture growth in a familiar environment.
5. Developmental Screenings
PAT provides regular screenings that help identify any developmental delays or concerns early on. Early detection is crucial for addressing issues and getting the child any needed services as soon as possible.
6. Strong Parent-Child Relationships
The program fosters healthy, nurturing relationships between parents and their children, enhancing bonding and promoting a positive family environment.
7. Resource Connections
Families enrolled in PAT gain access to valuable community resources, such as healthcare, childcare, and special education services. The program helps parents navigate the support network available to them.
8. Inclusive and Flexible
PAT supports families from all backgrounds and structures. It’s flexible to accommodate different schedules and personalized needs, making it accessible for a variety of families.
